Welcome to Year 1
In Year 1 children will be taught by Miss O'Donnell, Mrs Shaw and Mrs Bellwood. Mrs Shaw will be teaching on Wednesday afternoons to cover PPA time.
Our topic this term is'Where in the Word?' The children have been on a local walk looking for human and physical features in Castleford, they have made a UK landmark as part of a home learning project and we are looking forward to our school trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park where we will look at Henry Moore's sculptures.
Below are some pictures from the Yorkshire Sculpture Park visit, our local walk, fun in the snow and the children's home learning projects that they presented with facts to parents.
To celebrate World Book Day 2016 we wore pyjamas to school.
We listened to lots of stories and bought books that we can read at home with our Mums and Dads.
Our topic in Autumn term was 'Just Imagine'. The children learnt lots about castles, William the Conqeror, family trees and different fabrics in art.
To support our topic we visited Skipton Castle. The children enjoyed finding out information about life in a castle and really enjoyed visiting the deep, dark, dungeons!
10.11.15 Medieval Day
Today was 'Medieval Day' in Year 1 and 2. The children completed a range of activities such as making shields, crowns, flags and even ate at a medieval banquet. The children then showed their home learning projects (a piece of medieval clothing)to each other and their parents, explaining what they had made and how they made it.
